What is Florida Cable's MiPhone service?

How is Florida Cable's MiPhone Service different from the traditional phone service I have today?

Your current telephone company provides your telephone service over copper wires, attached to a terminal on the outside of your home. Florida Cable's MiPhone is advanced technology, with telephone service delivered on the same coaxial cable that gives you Cable TV and high-speed Internet services.

What is VoIP?

Voice Over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, is a new technology that allows you to make and receive calls using a broadband internet connection instead of a standard phone line. VoIP converts your phone calls into data that transmits through your high-speed Internet connection just like email. It comes out on the receiving end just like a regular phone call.

What do I need to use VoIP?

In order to use VoIP, all you need is a broadband Internet Connection and a touch-tone telephone.

Do I have to use my computer to make phone calls?

Absolutely not! Once you are connected, just pick up the phone and use it. You can use the same touch-tone telephone that you use with traditional phone lines. There is a web portal that allows you to change advanced features on your account, or you can change some of the basic features by using Call Handling Codes (* Codes) on your phone.

Can I keep my existing phone number?

In most cases you can transfer your existing phone number. To find out if your number is eligible, check the Availability Page Once your decide to port your number, you will need to complete the Letter of Authorization form and send it to us via mail or fax along with a copy of your most recent phone bill. Note: It is important that the address listed on your phone bill matches the address on the Letter of Authorization form exactly.  Download the LNP Authorization Form

How can Florida Cable's MiPhone benefit me?

By replacing your expensive local phone service, MiPhone can save you money! You no longer get billed by the minute for long-distance calling, and you don't have to resort to a cell phone with static and dropped calls in order to do it. MiPhone also includes for free many features that you would normally have to pay extra for, and several that are simply not possible with traditional phone systems.

Can I use my existing phones?

Yes! MiPhone internet phone service works with any standard touchtone telephone.

When can I start using my service?

Once you signup and activate your account (by acknowledging the 911 Dialing information) we will ship your adapter within 2-5 business days. Setup only takes a few minutes, and you'll have a temporary number you can start using immediately with the service. We'll notify you when your existing number ports, or your new number for your area is activated.

Can I call people who have other local service providers?

Of course! Florida Cable's MiPhone customers can call anyone, regardless of who their local service provider is.

Do I need to cancel my current local service when I switch to Florida Cable's MiPhone service?

If you are keeping your existing number, you don't need to do a thing. Florida Cable's MiPhone will handle everything for you so that your transition to our service will be smooth and simple. When you keep your number, we will contact your current provider and coordinate the transfer of your service so there will not be any service interruption. However, if you take a new number with MiPhone, you will need to contact your old provider to cancel phone service with them. We recommend that you wait to cancel service with your old provider until after your MiPhone service has been installed to prevent any interruption of service.

Is the sound quality clear on Florida Cable's MiPhone?

Florida Cable's MiPhone is advanced technology, allowing the telephone service to be delivered on the same coaxial cable that delivers our video services and high-speed internet. This advanced technology allows us to deliver a signal with less noise and distortion than many traditional telephone companies.

How many phone lines can I get with Florida Cable's MiPhone?

Because Florida Cable's MiPhone relies on advanced technology to deliver phone service to your home, and we do not use the old-style telephone wires to deliver service, we can deliver as many lines as you need to your home or business. Please call our service office to ask about additional telephone lines. We have great rates!

What if my electricity goes out? Will I still be able to use my MiPhone service?

All of Florida Cable's services require electricity to function. If your electricity goes out, you will not be able to place a call.

If my cable goes out, will my phone go out too?

Florida Cable's MiPhone uses advanced technology to deliver all of your Digital Telephone services, including Digital Cable, and High-speed Internet. To ensure reliability, these services function independently of each other so if one service is affected, it does not necessarily affect the other services. However, if there is an accident or storm that brings down part of our network, multiple services may be disrupted until our network is repaired.

Can I be on the Internet with my Florida Cable Internet Service AND talk on my MiPhone at the same time?

Yes! And, your internet speed will be just as fast as it always is - it will not be affected at all.
